Last season, the 25-year-old defender played in the Italian league, in Ferrara. After playing his entire career in Angers (Elite league) Alexandre Gaboriau tried the experience abroad to discover another type of hockey. “It was a challenge for me, because I was the leader of the team, he explains. It had nothing to do with the French championship. In Italy, we used to have two games a week. The game is more physical, the referees let play, but also much less integrated, with fewer game systems.
Already a first recruit passed by the Elite for the Alchimists of Bourges
The arrival of the international in Bourges is linked to that of another former player from Angers, the native of Nice Yves Perrot, recruited in the off-season. “We’ve known each other since we were 7-8 years old,” says Alexandre Gaboriau. In the youth categories, we faced each other in the final each year. Then, we were called up to the France team at the same time. We did the world championships together and we created very strong friendships. »
Vice world champion
Internationally, Alexandre Gaboriau was notably junior world champion in 2014. Then world vice-champion in 2018, with the seniors. If the neo-Berruyer is not part of the France group selected to contest the World Games in Birmingham (United States) this summer, he has not drawn a line under his international career.
Coach Bob Millette surrounded by Judicaël Xavier, Alexandre Gaboriau, Alain Requiem and Yves Perrot.
In Bourges, he will continue his studies (BPJEPS at Creps) in order to become a sports educator. However, the prospect of evolving in N1 (second French level) does not scare the young man. “I had other opportunities in Elite, but what I liked here was the proximity to everything. For me, Bourges is a “mini Angers”. And then, the sports project interests me. There is a good structure, we received a good allocation and the club is ambitious. We have everything to succeed and rise to the top. »
Furthermore, this pure “skating” product does not exclude trying out ice hockey when the ice rink is equipped.
