Assurancia is full of hopes

Assurancia de Thetford hosted the annual North American Hockey League draft on Saturday and took the opportunity to select ten players to add to its protection list.

Already well off in net, the squad made sure to stay that way as they made 24-year-old goaltender Samuel Harvey their first choice. The latter split the most recent season between the East Coast League and the American League. A good friend of forward Alexandre Goulet, the two were teammates at the University of New Brunswick.

In the second round, the Assurancia threw its evolution on the 21-year-old defender Zachary Massicotte who plays with the Shawinigan Cataractes and who participates in the next week in the Memorial Cup tournament. Having no choice in the third round, the staff of Thetford pronounced the names of Alexandre Joncas and Zachary Lavigne in the fourth and fifth rounds respectively. Joncas has just finished his junior career with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, while Lavigne has been with the Patriotes of the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières for three years.

Three attackers were then selected in rounds 7, 8 and 9. They are Shawn Cameron, 26, Jordan Ty-Fournier, 25, and Raphaël Gosselin, 25. Finally, Assurancia had three picks in the tenth round and signed defensemen David Noël and Kévin Lavallée, as well as forward Kévin Roy.

In total, Assurancia will therefore have drafted a goalkeeper, four defenders and five attackers. While some of them are more placements for the future, others may join the team shortly.

The general manager, Bobby Baril, was very happy at the end of this exercise. “We had several names on our list and we managed to select the vast majority of the players we had targeted. We are in contact with each of them and some have already confirmed their interest in joining our team, while others will be finishing their university. »

True to form, the management has not departed from tradition by diversifying its choices. “With the return of our core next year, we wanted to continue to ensure stability by taking into account the players in each position, as well as others who will be with us in the short and longer term. We have respected the philosophy that we have always had,” he concluded.
