Winner of Bautista Agut in 3 sets during a real battle of earth, Dominic Thiem will face the Argentinian Baez in the quarter-finals in Sweden. This tournament seems to be one of rebirth for the Austrian who has lined up two wins in a row.
He didn’t need more to talk about back.
“It’s great to play here. It’s an amazing atmosphere and I’m so happy to have won today so I can have at least one more game tomorrow. The victory against Emil in the previous round gave me the signal that I can once again compete with the best players in the world and that was the case today against Roberto. I expected and hoped it would be a tight game. When I won the first set in the tiebreak, I said to myself: “Hey, I can win today”. I had that belief until the end of the match and the third set was really good. It’s a process. I beat Ruusuvuori and today I beat Bautista Agut. Two really high level opponents, so if I can dominate them it means I’m definitely back. I’m in the quarter-finals of a very competitive tournament, so I’m happy. It’s a process, but I’m on the right track. »
