He is the kind of player whose agent has received several phone calls since the end of the season, from different clubs in National 1 eager to enlist him for the 2022-2023 season. Joel Awich29 years old, native of Nairobi in Kenya and who studied at the American University of Cal Poly Mustangs, has just made a commitment in favor of the Caen Basket Calvados.
Good presence on the rebound
This strong winger (position 4) of 2.01 m marked the minds of National 1 observers during the 2020-2021 financial year under the colors of the promoted Dax-Gamarde. He then averaged 15.4 points per game, with 7.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists. He comes out of a less prolific season at Andrézieux, where the mark was better distributed between the players. He played all 36 regular phase games this season, averaging 10.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
He had arrived in France by the Montbrison gate (National 2), before joining Souffelweyersheim in National 1, where he worked under the orders of a certain Stéphane Eberlin, the new coach of the CBC. Arriving in Caen, Joel Awich found another familiar face, that of Parfait Njiba who was also playing in Andrézieux this year.
The internal sector of the Caen club is now almost complete, with Moïse Diamé leaving to play his third season in a row in Normandy, and Mounir Bernaoui who arrives from Chartres.
One position remains to be filled: that of pivot (position 5). He could be appointed to an American player, at least the Caen staff does not favor a foreigner on position 2, where only Florian Thibedore is present for the moment.
