Bernarda Pera, from qualifying to her first WTA title in Budapest

The Budapest sun brought good luck to Bernarda Pera, unstoppable this week. Coming from the qualifications, the American won seven consecutive matches without losing a single set to afford her first victory on the WTA circuit.

In the final, Bernarda Pera, 130th player in the world, easily dominated the Serbian Aleksandra Krunic (6-3, 6-3) Sunday in the middle of the day, at the Római Tennis Academy in Budapest. The 27-year-old played a perfect game by breaking her opponent four times without shaking for a moment.

She dismissed Spanish lucky loser Marina Bassols Ribera (6-2, 7-5), Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich, seeded n°5 (7-5, 6-2), Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto (6-4 , 6-3), and Hungary’s No.9 seed Anna Bondar (6-3, 6-4), earlier in the tournament.

Thanks to this superb week in Hungary, Bernarda Pera will make a tie of 49 places in the WTA ranking next Monday and will be 81st in the world.
