Bourg-de-Péage Drôme Handball – U20 World Championships: Brazil at the opening for our peageoises!

This Wednesday opens the U20 women’s handball world championships in Slovenia. The French team and its 3 péageoises have a good card to play.

Heavy ! Very very heavy ! This Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. the opposition against the surprising Brazilian team will be, for our three young people from the French women’s U20 handball team, what is called an opening with a fanfare. A world competition in which the “Bleuettes” will be one of the favorite teams for the title.

However, this is only a very first challenge, even if it is a major one for Lucie Modenel (captain of the selection), Siobann Delaye (right wing) and Léna Grandveaux (left rear).

In Slovenia, no less than 32 national teams will try to win the ultimate title on July 3, the one that can give an incredible boost to your career at the highest level. A title held since the 2018 edition by Hungary.

Our three tollbooths have obviously been in the eye of the national authorities for many years now. Their astonishing physical and technical qualities have also not left indifferent some of the biggest French clubs who will not lose sight of the 18 players forming the particularly efficient backbone of this France U20 team coached by Eric Baradat.

They are, for the most part, the future of French women’s handball. Some of them could also quickly join Les Bleues and thus claim to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The holy grail that our young international tollers are obviously thinking about with envy and ambition.

The chicken of death

After the tough confrontation against Brazil on June 22, there was no time to breathe for the U20s who, the next day, will have to meet Korea. Two trap matches before a final in apotheosis on June 25 at 2:30 p.m. against Norway. Something to whet your appetite and get a clearer idea of the very high level of world women’s handball.

No question of a lower ignition delay in this preliminary phase. Because only the first 2 of each pool get a ticket for the main round which will send the 8 best teams to the quarter-finals until the final scheduled for July 3. A journey strewn with pitfalls and above all particularly long and tested.

A single watchword, a few days before the first match against Brazil: to be operational without the slightest possibility of a right to error.

Our 3 peageoises are beautiful and well aware of this issue since France in its already long history, has never been U20 world champion. Enough to give extra motivation to the whole group. Lucie, Lena and Siobann are ready, they are already on top in the starting blocks!

Ladies, now it’s up to you…
