EuroBasket U20 Women: A ninth crown for Spain

Spain prevailed 47-42 against the Czech Republic in the final of the European Women’s U20 Championship to claim a ninth crown and their fifth title in the last six editions of the competition.

Renting their opponent to just 14 points in the first half, Spain made a first difference, and they knew how to keep their cool when the Czechs returned to the charge. Txell Alarcón’s 16 points and Noa María Djiu’s 14 rebounds claimed the Spanish win in a low-scoring game that was only resolved in the final quarter. Mama Dembele put in the decisive lay-up in the dying seconds.

Spain’s Claudia Contell was crowned MVP of the tournament, and was joined in the All-Star Five by teammate Noa Maria Djiu, Czech Valentyna Kadlecova, Hungary’s Reka Dombai, and Italy’s Ilaria Panzera.

Spain dominates the European youth basket more than ever when we know that the U17s are in the final of the World Cup.
