Fallout of the United States, Chile will play its first Rugby World Cup

Uruguay will not be the only representatives of South America to travel to France for the 2023 World Cup. Saturday afternoon, in Glendale, Chile achieved a small feat by winning against the United States. United (31-29), erasing their one-point loss to Santiago (21-22) in the first leg.

Fallers of the Eagles, the Chileans will contest the first World Cup in their history. They complete group D where England, Japan, Argentina and Samoa describe.

In Colorado, Chile won its ticket at the cost of a crazy comeback. After two tries from Mark Iosefo and another from AJ MacGinty, the United States led 19-0 (29th) and headed for a ninth qualification in nine World Cups. But the American dream began to crumble at the end of the first half with a Chilean reaction, in the form of two tries (Torrealba and Garafulic).

A last chance for the USA in November

After a new try from each camp, MacGinty’s boot gave the Eagles a small lead (29-21, 60th) but the pillar Mattias Ditus replied for “Los Condores” and with six minutes remaining, Santiago Videla passed the sanction of winning (31-29, 74th).

Beaten in front of their home crowd, the US selection will have one last chance to qualify for the 2023 World Cup. In November, they will have to win the four-team intercontinental tournament that will award the last ticket. Kenya and Portugal will also play this tournament.
