The three best French handball clubs are taking part in this second elite tournament.
Last straight line before the elite handball tournament organized by the Saint-Affricain club. For this second edition, the 12-Star gymnasium welcomes three best elite clubs in France: Montpellier Handball (MHB), the most successful French club, Pays d’Aix Université Club (PAUC) and Saint-Raphaël Var (SRVHB), two flagship clubs in national handball.
All three play in Division 1 and are joined by Tremblay, still in D2, but very ambitious. “When we created the tournament in 2021, we already had the goal of making the event permanent. We have far exceeded our objectives because we have managed to bring the elite of national handball to Saint-Affrique”, welcomes the co-president of the Saint-Affricain club, Damien Solassol.
On the program, two evenings: Friday evening, for the semi-finals, PAUC will face Tremblay at 6:30 p.m. and Montpellier will play Saint-Raphaël at 8:30 p.m. The next day, a match will be held at 5 p.m. will rank 3rd and the final will take place at 7 p.m.
Discover the potential of southern Aveyron
The Saint-Affricain club has two objectives for this tournament: to introduce the local public to high-level handball and to highlight the assets of the Saint-Affricain and southern Aveyron region.
To do this, side events to matches are set up. Friday and Saturday, three conferences will be held. Two of them are intended for handball amateurs and concern, for one, game strategies, and for the other, the relationship between referees and coaches during a match.
Three symposiums around sport
The one that takes place on Friday morning evokes sports management: “This conference will be given by two coaches recognized in the field, but is not intended only for handball coaches. It can be particularly rewarding for coaches from other disciplines and even for business leaders or local HR managers” , says Inès Deltour, the club’s treasurer.
“We want to introduce these clubs to the potential of our department, in particular the quality of the environment and life that we enjoy on a daily basis and the sports facilities present in Saint-Affricain.”
Online ticketing is open
This year, the La Vie Claire store is the flagship partner of the tournament. For Damien Solassol, “This is part of an ambition to want to anchor this kind of event on our territory. We hope that the tournament will help to make local economic activity work over these few days”.
For the occasion and to support the club, La Vie Claire will be in the colors of SAHB throughout the week. The ticket office is already open online, the link can be found on the club’s website and social networks.
A Saint African back home
Among the players from the Aix club present at the elite tournament, Adrien Vergély was starting his first season with the Pays d’Aix Université Club.
The young 26-year-old athlete took his first steps in the Saint-Affrican gymnasium alongside his older brother Jérémy, also a pro in the Billières club (Pyrénées-Atlantiques).
Graduated from the Saint-Africain handball club until he was 15, he was then trained at the hope center of Nîmes and at the Nantes training center, then forged himself in the clubs of Billières and Valence before joining PAUC.
A homecoming awaited for this Aveyronnais now a pro player on the Mediterranean coast. Occupying the position of pivot, he will open the tournament with his team on Friday August 26, at 6:30 p.m., against players from the Paris region, Tremblay Handball.
