The Moroccan national handball team lost, Wednesday evening in Cairo, against its Egyptian counterpart (group A) 21 to 36 during the paid match for the third day of the 25th edition of the African Nations Handball Championship , disputed in Egypt until July 18.

The first half ended with the national team losing 12-18. The Pharaohs then managed to widen the gap during the second half, ending the game with a 36-21 victory for Egypt.

The national team performed well in the game against their Egyptian counterparts, the title holders and big favorites to win the championship. Several players shone, including goalkeeper Alaa Laâroussi and Mohamed Amine Bentaleb, under the direction of technician Noureddine Bouhaddioui.

The Moroccan and Egyptian teams had qualified for the quarter-finals of the African championship before this meeting, after their victory over Cameroon, third in the group.

Following this loss, the Moroccan national team finished the group stage in second place in Group A with two points, while the Egyptian team topped the standings with 4 points.

In the quarter-finals, the Moroccan team will face its Guinean counterpart, leader of group B, while Egypt will meet Algeria, second in the group, on Friday.

The quarter-finals of the continental competition ended after the end of the group stage matches and 8 teams reserved their places in the next round, namely Egypt and Morocco (group A), Guinea and Algeria (group B), Tunisia and Cape Verde (group C), and Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo (group D).

Tunisia holds the record for victories in the African Handball Nations Championship with 10 titles.
