“For our summer tournament, we are hoping for the usual attendance, namely 170 players, which would be comfortable. The tournament is open to people over 65”, explains Christian Deloget, the president of the Tennis-club of Paimpol. Its team and its volunteers are already on hand to organize these exchanges, which have become an institution under this formula since the 1980s. They will take place on the club’s six pitches, mainly on the outdoor clay courts, which have just been redone. Ten days, from July 28 to August 6, which will see players of all stripes compete, in singles, doubles or mixed. “We are dedicating an extra day, July 31, for doubles matches. A day that pleases us because 40% of our players are over 60 years old and the doubles allow tennis longevity, ”he specifies.
Steps for everyone all summer long
In addition, the Paimpolais club offers tennis courses throughout the summer, in July and August (registration is open), with a maximum of teaching on traditional clay, it is our trademark. Without forgetting that the improvement wall and the mini-tennis are free”.
While waiting for the tournament, a group of young Argentinian players (who will take part in it) are already training on the courts of Paimpo. “They come to us regularly and tour the region’s clay clubs – Saint-Quay-Portrieux, Plancoët, Le Val-André… to train”, informs the manager.
New work to come
In his colorful clubhouse, renovated a few months ago by the city’s technical services, then decorated by the club, Christian Deloget is delighted with other transformations to come: “After the exteriors, we hope for the renovation of the interior courts and lighting for next summer. It’s time because there are bosses in places and it can become dangerous in the long run. The project has been in the cards for a while and we have a good collaboration with the town hall, which has started the process. It will be yet another impetus for the club, after the novelties of this year such as the installation of ping-pong tables or the new performance wall”.
