(Belga) Kangoeroes Mechelen will face Kim Mestdagh with his Italian club Schio and European champions Sopron in group B of the women’s Euroleague basketball group whose draw took place on Friday in Munich, at the headquarters of the FIBA Europe, the European federation.
The Belgian champions, also victorious in the Belgian Cup, are playing the Euroleague for the first time in its history and are the 3rd Belgian club to take part in the most important women’s competition after Namur and Castors Braine. Coached by Arvid Diels, the Mechelen club is in Group B with, in addition to Schio, the Hungarians of Sopron, winners of the Euroleague last year, the Spaniards of Salamanca, champions of Spain, the French women of Basket Landes and Céline Dumerc, the Turks of CBK Mersin, and the winner of the jump-off between the French of Villeneuve d’Ascq (Hind Ben Abdelkader) and the Spaniards of Girona, as well as the winner of the mini-tournament of qualifications between Miskolc (Hon), Botas (Tur) and Ramla (Isr, Maxuella Lisowa) The other group is made up of Fenerbahce, vice-champion of Europe, USK Prague, Bourges, winner of the EuroCoupe last season, the Spaniards of Valence, the Hungarians from Szekszard, the Polish from Polkowice, the Italians from Virtus Bologna and the winner of the mini-tournament between Red Star Belgrade (Ser), Sepsi (Rou) and Olympiakos (Grè). Hind Ben Abdelkader therefore played with Villeneuve d’Ascq a qualifying match (back and forth) against the Spaniards of Girona. As well as Maxuella Lisowa who will have to extricate herself from a group of three with her new released club of Ramla as well as the Turks of Botas and the Hungarians of Miskolc.
