Abdominal injury, Australian Nick Kyrgios withdrew from the second round of the Mallorca tournament, five days before the start of Wimbledon

Australian Nick Kyrgios, whose instinctive and confusing tennis sparkled at the start of the grass season, had to forfeit Wednesday before his second round in Mallorca due to an abdominal injury five days before the start of Wimbledon, according to organizers.

His Spanish opponent Roberto Bautista (20th in the world) therefore qualifies without playing for the quarter-finals where he will face world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev or his Russian compatriot Aslan Karatsev (43rd).

Kyrgios (45th) had drawn a line under the entire European clay season in the spring and found his way back to the courts on the grass of Stuttgart in June. He had reached the semi-finals there (beaten by Andy Murray 7-6, 6-2), then he was again in the semi-finals last week in Halle (beaten by Hubert Hurkacz 4-6, 7-6, 7-6).

Kyrgios reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon for his first appearance in 2014. He still reached the 8th place the following two years but since then he has not gone beyond the 3rd round.
