LOU Rugby knows where it is going this season

LOU Rugby applies its traditional back-to-school press conference this Monday. The opportunity to publicly formalize the arrival of Xavier Garbajosa, the team’s new coach.

After a five-week break, the Rouge et Noir are back on the pitch for the start of summer preparation and the return to sport. The great novelty, and not the least, is naturally the assumption of duties of Xavier Garbajosa who succeeds Pierre Mignoni, back in Toulon. “I arrive with a lot of excitement, I was really looking forward to it getting started. I discovered a fresh and enthusiastic group. The players needed to clear their heads and they are happy to be back”says the new coach. “The opportunity to join the club quickly turned into an objective for a reason: the game played by the team speaks to me a lot, this Lyonnais identity suits me. We are going to work to anchor it even more and create a real culture. “he continues.

And when we talk about goals for the next season, Yann Roubert, the president of LOU Rugby, and Xavier Garbajosa, are very clearly on the same wavelength. “The objective today is to reach the final stages of the TOP 14”says Yann Roubert. “There is no pressure, only the desire to do well and to continue to take what has been good and well done to achieve real added value”says Xavier Garbajosa.

On the European Cup side, the Lyonnais are still savoring their Challenge Cup title but are now planning for the Champions Cup. “Last season shows that today’s LOU Rugby can win back titles. We will have to find consistency, we have seen that we can move mountains and beat anyone so we are attacking the championship with a lot appetite and humility”says Yann Roubert.

The Rhodaniens will still have to confront all the new adversaries. “There is a return match against the Saracens which we dread and a novelty with the Bulls which gives the opportunity to go to South Africa and receive some of the best players in the world. We will come up against what is happening. do the best, we’re going to go there with a lot of appetite”he assures. “To face the Saracens and the Bulls is a chance, I really insist”confirms Xavier Garbajosa.

The only downside, Lima Sopoaga is forced to undergo an operation on Tuesday and will be removed from the field for a while.

LOU Rugby will face Montpellier on August 19 in Bastia for a preparation match.
