Postponed twice due to Covid, the Ploudaniel Tennis Club will celebrate its 40th birthday on September 24, 2022 in the presence of the club’s godmother, Maria Sharapova.
After Aravane Rezaï in 2017, the tennis club has just achieved a new feat by preparing to welcome the former world number one, Maria Sharapova, next school year. At 35, the one who won four Grand Slam titles, including Roland Garros in 2012 and 2014, as well as the Fed Cup in 2008 and an Olympic silver medal in 2012, is now retired from competitions.
“Maria as godmother of the tournament is really a wonderful surprise for the young licensees as well as for the old ones”, underlines Pierre-Yves Roué, whose professional activities have been in Moscow since 2016 and at the origin of the coming of the champion. If it is not certain that she can play because of a pregnancy announced last April, her presence prospers the leaders of the club. “It will always be possible for him to exchange balls with the young people of the club and another exhibition match will then be organised”.
