Monsoon Bridge. The Grand Est rugby league promises beach rugby at the Big Blue

Usually, it is a sport that is found on a lawn. But this Thursday, July 14, rugby has invested the sand, and more precisely that of the Big Blue. The Grand Est rugby league has established a beach rugby stage organized by the mussipontain rugby club. “It’s a qualifying phase for the national finals in Gruissan on August 20,” explains Thierry Philippe, vice-president of the league. Each league organizes a stage to send a team per region.

The clubs of the Grand Est could therefore register their team there to try to obtain the lucky ticket. Six teams made the trip to the city of Duroc: Nancy Seichamps boys, Nancy Seichamps women, Remiremont, Villers and two teams from Pont-à-Mousson. “The club representing the league, but we retain the right to make a selection of players,” he says. The teams competed all morning before the finals in the afternoon.

A discovery tournament

But above all, this afternoon had a fun but. “It is a federal order to revive beach rugby. Last year, there was no stage but we still sent a team there. “The goal is to promote this discipline,” adds Rémi Laurent, rugby 5 manager for the Grand Est. This is why a leisure tournament was also organised, where everyone could register on site. “The people present formed teams of all ages and mixed,” explains Rémi Laurent.

In a good-natured atmosphere, young and old came together to discover this activity on the sand delimited by inflatable tubes. The latter are the only downside of this sunny day. “We couldn’t install the ballast with the sand, and the wind hurts the ground”, regret the two men of the league. The posts could not be dressed, but that did not provoke the enthusiasm of the players.

For this first year, the league is satisfied with the day, despite late preparation. She is already thinking of a second edition. “We are thinking of organizing three dates in the three regions of the Grand Est. »
