The Moroccan handball selection has validated its ticket for the semi-finals of the African Nations Championship (CAN) of handball organized in Egypt, after winning a precious victory against Guinea (28-24) in the quarter-finals on Friday. . This victory also guarantees the Atlas Lions a place for the 2023 World Handball Championship which will take place in Poland and Sweden next January.
This is Morocco’s eighth qualification for the World Handball Championship. The Lions had participated seven times, the last time of which was in the last edition held in Egypt in 2021.
Against Guinea, the first half was marked by great excitement and an impressive rivalry between the Moroccan and Guinean teams, but the national team did not give up and took the advantage over their opponent before the end of the half. -time (14-13).
The Moroccan superiority continued in the second half, thanks in particular to the brilliant performance of goalkeeper Yassine Idrissi but also of Amine El Harchaoui, under the leadership of coach Noureddine Bouhaddioui who was able to settle the match in his favor (28-24).
In the AFCON semi-final, Morocco will face the winner of the match between Angola and Cape Verde, which will take place later in the day. Morocco had booked its ticket for the quarter-finals of this African competition, alongside Egypt, in a group (A) which includes only three teams.
The Moroccan selection had occupied the second place of the group with two points, behind Egypt which has the advantage of the goals, and in front of Cameroon, eliminated after losing its two matches.
