Morocco quits handball AFCON after loss to Cape Verde

LMorocco came out of the Handball CAN at the semi-final stage, being eliminated by Cape Verde. In the first half, Cape Verde managed to win by 11-9, while in the second half they widened the extra gap (23-18), which allowed them to qualify for the African final for the first time in its history.

The national team will therefore play the classification match for third place against Tunisia, having lost against Egypt who are heading to the final of this African championship, played at home. The most important achievement of the Moroccan national handball team in this African championship was to obtain third place in the 2006 edition which took place in Tunisia.

As a reminder, addressing the semi-final match in a press conference at the end of the paid match for the quarters, the national coach Noureddine Bouhaddioui had underlined the lack of time to prepare for it.

Despite this defeat, the Moroccan team will have achieved the most important through its qualification for the 2023 Handball World Championship to be held in Poland and Sweden next January, after reaching the semi-finals of this handball CAN.

Morocco will thus know its eighth participation in the Handball World Cup, its last having been in Egypt in 2021.
