NB stand out in ball hockey

The New Brunswick men’s teams took it all this weekend at the Canadian Level B, C and D Ball Hockey Championships at the Grant-Harvey Center in Fredericton.

In Division B, the New Brunswick Mooseheads defeated the Toronto Dream Team 3-2 in the gold medal game.

Andrew Stewart, Evan LeBlanc and Aaron Earle scored for the New Brunswick representatives. Note that there are two Acadians well known to hockey fans, Joey Richard and Daniel Vautour.

The Winnipeg Blizzard won bronze by defeating the Winnipeg Storm 7-4.

In the C Division, the New Brunswick Pigeons Pub Down Under defeated the Edmonton Killer Bees 2-1 in the final.

Kale McCallum, who plays for the Val-d’Or Foreurs in the QMJHL, and Austin Perry scored the goals for the Pigeons.

Three former Titan color holders also played for the Pigeons, namely Anderson MacDonald, Jaxon Bellamy and Ian Smallwood.

In the bronze medal game, the Toronto Plugs defeated the Fredericton Blues 3-2.

In division D, the victory went to the Farm Team of Saint-Jean who won 4 to 2 in front of the Knowlton Gnoshers of Edmonton.

Former Moncton Wildcats Zach Alchorn led the charge with two goals and an assist. Riley Yeomans and Harry Noftle completed the mark.

In the duel for the bronze medal, the Saint John Minotauros lost the flag 6 to 4 against the Bayview Blackhawks.

Finally, in Division B for the women, the Edmonton Cherry Pickers triumphed in the final over Team Canada U20 by a score of 1 to 0.

The next national meeting will take place July 28-31 in Winnipeg, where the country’s best teams in the men’s U19, U17 and U15 divisions, as well as in the women’s U19 and U16 divisions, compete.

Then, from August 8 to 13, the Canadian Level A Championships, for both men and women, will take place in Hamilton. The masters championships, both men’s and women’s, will also take place on the same dates at the same location.
