This time it’s not an April Fool’s Day joke: the Paris 2024 Olympics will start on Saturday July 27, 2024 in Paris… except for 3 sports groups including handball! Indeed, the OCOG of Paris 2024 announces today the first information related to the program of competitions of the different Olympic disciplines. In order to allow athletes taking part in the rugby 7s, handball and football tournaments in particular to take part in the opening ceremony, their respective tournaments will therefore begin before the official ceremony, which is never done traditionally. The handball tournament will start in Lille on Wednesday July 24, 2024.

One cause of this change in programming, compared to the traditional calendar of competitions, the handball finals will not come to close the Olympic fortnight as was the case during the previous Olympic Games. For the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the finals of the handball tournament will take place on Thursday August 8 and Friday August 9, 2024. Usually, handball had just closed the Olympic fortnight with very often medals around its neck since 1992…in 2024 it will be different .

As a reminder, the entire handball competition will take place at Pierre Mauroy stadium in Lille and not in Limoges as we announced this morning on the occasion of the traditional April 1st and its fish! 🙂
