Russell Westbrook and his long-time agent, Thad Foucher de Wasserman, have mutually decided to end their collaboration. In a statement to ESPN, Foucher refers to ” irreconcilable differences » and he explains, in essence, that he opposes a new transfer from Westbrook: « The best option for Westbrook is to stay with the Lakers, take advantage of that starting role and the support that Darvin Ham has publicly expressed.. »
Which means at the same time that the trend is starting, and that Westbrook is in favor of it. Unlike his agent who does not understand that his client is transferred from team to team, and that today it is even necessary to add one or two first rounds of Draft to satisfy the teams. He does not understand, too, that Westbrook agrees to be cut after his possible transfer.
“My belief is that this type of transaction only serves to diminish the value of Russell”
” Each time, teams gave up valuable players and assets to acquire Russell — and each time, a new franchise welcomed his arrival. We did it together with grace and class he writes. ” Now, with the possibility of a fourth trade in four years, the market tells the Lakers they need to add an extra edge with Russell in any trade scenario. And even then, such a trade could require Russell to leave his new team immediately through a buyout. My belief is that this type of transaction only serves to diminish the value of Russell and that his best option is to stay with the Lakers, take advantage of this starting role and the support that Darvin Ham has publicly expressed. Russell is a player who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame and he will prove it again before retiring. Unfortunately, irreconcilable differences exist as to the best path forward for him and we are no longer working together. I wish Russell and his family the best. »
Foucher has been Westbrook’s agent since 2008, the year of his Draft, and his selection by the Seattle Supersonics, which will become the Oklahoma City Thunder a few weeks later.
