No, you’re not dreaming we’re good today April 9th. April 1st and its traditional fish is well behind us and yet we tend to be mistaken this morning reading the columns of our colleagues from the Parisian. Indeed, as the daily revealed this morning in its sports pages, handball could possibly return to the capital for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and leave the Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille…at least for the preliminary group phase!
Following the imbroglio of the basketball tournament a few weeks ago, thanks in particular to the very media release of the French player playing in the NBA, Evan Fournier, the Paris 2024 OCOG had to review its roadmap in terms of organisation. Bye Bye hall 6 of the Porte de Versailles and its 9-meter ceiling and head to the future Arena 2 of the Porte de la Chapelle for at least the preliminary phase of the basketball tournament to end in Bercy for the final phases. Given that the OCOG has to rely on a very limited budget in terms of means and sites at its disposal, it is a real game of musical chairs which will be organized in the coming weeks and in which handball could possibly come out winner. As the Parisian newspaper points out, discussions are currently taking place between the OCOG and the federations concerned so as not to abandon hall 6 of the Porte de Versailles and thus allow it to host, as was initially planned, the handball tournament. with its preliminary phase to return to Lille at the Stade Pierre Mauroy for the final phases. Suddenly the basket could contest a possible preliminary phase in Lille in the enclosure normally reserved for LOSC to return to the capital at Bercy to contest its finals. In fact, Arena 2 at Porte de la Chapelle remained the site of badminton and gymnastics competitions.
It is indeed gymnastics that the members of the OCOG will have to accomplish soon in order to get back on their feet and finally present a welcome plan worthy of the name for the team sports present at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. In the meantime, and if the information is confirmed, it is indeed the handball players and members of the French handball teams who will find their smiles again, hoping to be able to experience the Olympic Games organized in their country more closely.
