According to several sources, foreign and especially Spanish, the French interior Petr Cornelie (26 years old, 2.11m) will soon commit to Real Madrid. The international (11 selections), who was in the group that played in the Tokyo Olympics last summer (silver medal), would thus join three compatriots in the Spanish capital: Guerschon Yabusele, Vincent Poirier and Fabien Causeur.
In the losing finalist of the last Euroleague season (against Anadolu Efes Istanbul), Cornelie should be Yabusele’s substitute as a strong winger. For the former Le Mans and Pau player, who had a complicated 2021-2022 exercise (between G-League and NBA – where he played 13 games with the Denver Nuggets -), it’s a great opportunity to relaunch.
Not selected for Eurobasket preparation
He was recently seen in blue as he participated in the last qualifying window for the 2023 World Cup (end of June – beginning of July), which ended in a defeat in Montenegro (69-70) and a big victory against Hungary in Mouilleron-le-Captif (81-40). On the other hand, he does not appear in the group of 17 players summoned to begin, on July 29 at Insep, the preparation for the Eurobasket (September 1-18).
