With a historic career in the Coupe de France which has made it to the final, the women’s Entente Sportive Besançon has achieved a more than successful season with limited financial means.
With a fourth place in the Butagaz Energy League, a quarter-final in the European Cup and a great adventure in the French Cup, the 2012/2022 season for the ESBF can be considered a great success. The Besançon club confirms with these fine performances its return to the forefront of French women’s handball. As a reminder, the reds and whites had not reached the final of the Coupe de France since the 2004/2005 season, where they had lifted the title. “At the start of the season it was a year that was going to be a little complicated for me”testifies the president of the club Daniel Hournon. “In the end it was not the case at all. I am more than satisfied with the results we have achieved”.
Struggle with limited means
An even more satisfying success when you know the club’s budget, which has been quite limited since the descent into division 2 in 2008. “The ESBF shines with its own means. We are a training club. We play young players from the academy or others who do not yet have international status, ” confirms the president. All hopes are allowed at Les Engagées, who dream of weighing the title of the first division as quickly as possible. To obtain this trophy, which has eluded them since 2002, the Besançon club intends to rely on these players “made in ESBF”, while presenting them as more advanced players.
