Arnaud Gilet, president of Rodez roller hockey, gives a positive assessment of the sold season.
For Arnaud Gilet, president of Rodez roller hockey, the 2021-2022 season is a good year. “This first exercise after Covid has brought us a lot of satisfaction at all levels”, he says. Regarding the workforce, the club recorded a record of licensees. “Before the first confinement, we were around a hundred and now we are more than 125he rejoices. If we had lost a few licenses, they all came back.”
Creation of a roller derby team
Second source of satisfaction for Arnaud Gilet, the creation of a roller derby section, an exclusively female discipline. “Fifteen girls have joined this section, which we expect to be well developed”, indicates the leader. The derby is a kind of race during which two teams compete and a player from each formation must try to do as many laps as possible while avoiding blockages by their opponents. “This season, we haven’t competed in the derby because you have to learn the special rules. But next season, we will have friendly matches and maybe a championship”hopes Arnaud Gilet.
The Ruthenian association also has a roller hockey team, which has supported the club since its beginnings in 2003, and the sporting results are up to the ambitions. “In the National 4 championship, our pennant team finished in second place in its League pool, which is very good.the president is satisfied. Among the youngest, the U15s have reached the League semi-finals. We also had four upgraded girls who participated in the French U17 championship, where they took second place with their regional team. We had also loaned two girls to the Toulouse club, in National 2, and they went to the semi-finals of the French championship.
Apart from this competition component, the RRH includes a leisure section. “A certain number of our licensees are there to have fun and sometimes practice with their families, apart from the spirit of competition.says the leader. I also invite everyone to contact us or even come and meet us on Tuesday evening at the Frugère gymnasium to find out or try it out.”
