While theIreland created the feat in New Zealandwhat’England returned victorious from his tour in Australia and that theFrench team came to the end of Japanother world rugby nations played their summer tours and we can say that the world order found itself not upset but strongly questioned.
Italy struggles to confirm
We had left the Italians at the end of the VI Nations Tournament on a victory in Cardiff against Wales (21-22) and this summer tour was to confirm their revival. On the menu, Portugal, Romania and Georgia in this order. From the first match against the Portuguese, the Italians came close to correctional. Deprived of Paul Garbisi and Monty Ioane, the Transalpins emerged victorious 31-38 without having led a single second during the meeting. A week later in Bucharest against Romania, the Italians ensured by winning with a river score of 45 to 13 having led 45 to 6. A good omen before facing their main rival: Georgia. Unfortunately for the Italians, this meeting did not go as planned. Overwhelmed in the commitment and enthusiasm of the Georgians, the Nazionale lost 28 to 19 and finished the summer tour in 14th place in the World Rugby rankings.
Georgia continues to grow
Georgia precisely who therefore beat Italy and even failed to hang the scalp of another major nation in world rugby. Indeed, for their first match of the summer tour, the Lelos only lost 24 to 30 against a team from Argentina bis but despite everything after a huge match. And finally, the Georgians overcame a catchy Portugal (23-14) which is also progressing from year to year to finish in 12th place in the World Rugby rankings at the end of this international window, two places ahead Italy… Enough to revive a certain debate on a possible barrage between the first of the VI Nations B (Rugby Europe Championship) and the last of the VI Nations that these two countries are often. Note that the full-back or winger of Lyons, Davit Niniashvili (20 years), another impressive summer.
Romania and Uruguay in halftone
The Romania remains on a victory and a loss against Uruguay. On Saturday July 9, the Romanians imposed themselves (22-30) in pain, thanks, in particular, to an important domination of the forwards. Number 9, Gabriel Rupanu was decisive in the Romanian success with 15 points scored. Note that the selection has far fewer players playing in the French championships than in the past. After being crushed by Italy (45-13), Romania lost on Sunday July 17 againstUruguay (26-20).
The Uruguayan selection therefore first fell against Romania before taking its revenge during the second test. Yet largely dominated in conquest, the opener’s teammates Philippe Berchesi (Dax) and the Nice scrum-half, Augustin Ormaechea, resisted to finally win. In short, the two nations with similar results will not have managed to decide.
An attractive Portugal that does not win
Portugal failed to qualify for the World Cup 2023 in France after being defeated against Spain (33-28). During this summer tour, the men of the coach and former French international Patrice Lagisquet (46 caps), initially did better than resist against Italy (38-31 defeat) before losing again in an impressive match against Argentina B (35-52).
In the last match against Georgia, the Portuguese struggled for a long time but lost against a revamped Lelos team (10 changes compared to the victory against Italy). In the end, there is little missing from the teammates of Mike Tadjer, Samuel Marks and Vincent Pinto to cross a course and win victories.
