A former British rugby league player, Ricky Bibey, 40, was found dead in a hotel room in Florence, Italian media revealed on Sunday.

A two-time Challenge Cup winner with the Wigan Warriors and St Helens, Bibey was found dead on Saturday at the Hotel Continentale, possibly the victim of a heart attack, according to the daily La Nazione. The alert was given by a 43-year-old woman who Bibey happened to be in the bedroom with. She was seriously injured and bleeding profusely. She was taken immediately to the hospital.

According to other customers of the Continentale, very close to the famous Ponte Vecchio, many cries were heard coming from this room. Objects that could be used during erotic games were seized by the police, La Nazione added.
