Facing Federico Coria, the Russian Andrey Rublev had to fight this Thursday in Bastad to get out in the round of 16 (7-5, 4-6, 7-6) and thus join Laslo Djere in the next round in Sweden.

Unlike Casper Ruud on Wednesday, Andrey Rublev remains in contention at Bastad. Indeed, if the Norwegian, seeded number one of the tournament, was eliminated from the start, the Russian got away with it in three sets (7-5, 4-6, 7-6) and 2h37 of play against Federico Coria. While he had only played one match in Halle since his elimination at Roland-Garros by Marin Cilic at the beginning of June, the 8th in the world in the ATP ranking therefore experienced a fine test on Swedish clay on Thursday. From the start of the match, the breaks were very numerous (six in ten games), before the native of Moscow made the difference at the best of times by taking his opponent’s serve for the fourth time to then conclude. Hit, the Argentinian then took his time to recover but improved the only break of the second set, at 5-4 in his favor, to return to equality.

Rublev took his time

In the third and final set, if Rublev had a bad time taking an option on qualification by taking his opponent’s serve again, at 1-1, he then broke down at the worst of times when he was serving for the match. at 5-4. However, the Russian quickly swept aside the doubts to pull off an almost perfect tiebreaker. During this one, the favorite of the day left only two points to Coria, unable to counter the number two seed in Bastad, launched towards victory. Back on clay, after a very short stint on grass, the Muscovite therefore had the last word and is making his way. In the quarter-finals, Rublev now has an appointment with Laslo Djere for a place in the last four. This Thursday, the Serb did the job against the Swiss Marc-Andrea Huesler by winning in two sets (7-5, 6-2) and 1h25 of play.
