The NUC will not contest the Champions League again next season. The leaders of the Neuchâtel club have given up participating in the most prestigious European club competition.
Defending champion, the Riveraine club had the right to line up again in the qualifying phase, as during the exercise delivered.
This time, the NUC Central Committee learned lessons from participating in the previous Champions League, in which the NUC played two qualifying rounds.
“The prestigious Champions League requires very substantial logistical, human and above all financial resources and requires the extraordinary involvement of the club’s many volunteers. The structure of the NUC and the infrastructure of the city do not currently make it possible to respect and finance the specifications in the event of qualification for the group stages, ”we read in the club press release.
Moving to the Littoral skating rinks?
In the event of qualifying for the group stage, the NUC would have been forced to play matches outside the canton. Even if the club and the City of Neuchâtel have sought “solutions”. In the future, a move to the Littoral ice rinks to play this kind of match will be studied.
In the meantime, next season, the NUC will play the CEV Cup (2nd continental category), a competition that this club knows well. The draw for the first round of the CEV Cup will take place on June 28.
