Supporters of the Castres Olympique rugby club are facing a shortage of bus drivers which could make it difficult to reach Paris for the Top 14 final.

The final of the Top 14, the French rugby union championship, will oppose the teams of Castres and Montpellier on Friday June 25, 2022. A match which will take place at the Stade de France, in Paris. And the supporters want to go there… but the organization promises to be complex. Report by Christine Bouillot.

Final of the Top 14 rugby: “There are many who ask for bus seats”

The supporters of Castres, the question arises: how to connect Paris? “I don’t know, we’ll have to think about it“, underlines one of them. 21 buses have already been chartered, but the club finds itself unable to sell new places for lack of new buses and new drivers.

Pierrette, at the ticket office, explains: “they take the tickets, they will manage and others…“Pour so much,”there are many who obviously ask for bus seats“. Or, the waiting list is already long,”for at least two buses“.And we don’t have a bus, we don’t have a bus anymore“, she regrets.

It doesn’t prevent us from winning, but everything is against us

The Castres Olympique rugby club is faced with the lack of bus drivers that is hitting the country. “We did everything to get some, and we don’t have any“says Jacky, one of the club’s volunteers.”It is the shortage. The club sought”everywhere, even in Spain, on a called Spanish buses“.

Apart from the missing buses and drivers, fans also find themselves stuck with other issues. “The works on the SNCF line, the strikes in Paris… We have everything against us“, judge one of the supporters.”It does not prevent us from winning, but everything is against us.

For others, there is no question of missing the meeting: “whatever happens, on foot if necessary, I start to leave“.

For those who have not managed to reach the capital, two giant screens will be installed in the city of Castres to broadcast the meeting.
