CSKA Moscow has a new coach, Macedonian Emil Rajkovic, and could initiate a rapprochement with Serbian clubs.
During a press conference, Emil Rajkovic, who served three seasons in Astana, and who was appointed as the Coach of the VTB League in 2019, said:
“Becoming a CSKA coach is an honor, a responsibility and a challenge. Our task is to advance Russian players. We won’t have the Euroleague, but the VTB League final showed how spectacular basketball can be. We would like the team to play aggressively in defense, to play as many players as possible, to have a high intensity of play. »
President Andrei Vatoutine believes that the impossibility for his club to challenge the Euroleague should allow him to develop young people.
“An important factor is that he knows the specifics of the tournament,” he said of his coach. We understand that we are not participating in the Euroleague, but there is no point in crying and tearing our hair out. I assess the season without the Euroleague as an opportunity to give young people a chance. »
Vatoutine also said that CSKA’s budget this season was 2.82 billion rubles (49 million euros), and that it will be lower for the next one. Moreover, while the Russian clubs are on the bench of the international community, the Serbs could reach out to them.
“Maybe CSKA will organize a pre-season training camp in Serbia. I am also aware of the wish of the VTB League to organize a tournament in Moscow with the participation of Russian and Serbian clubs. Possibly in the format of the VTB United League Super Cup, but this should be announced by the tournament management. »
VTB United League president Sergei Kushchenko has confirmed that the second Super Bowl will be held from September 21 to 25, and that foreign clubs will be able to participate in the tournament.
