ROME — Canada’s Brandie Wilkerson and Sophie Bukovec won silver at the World Women’s Beach Volleyball Championship on Sunday.
The Toronto duo lost in straight sets 21-17, 21-19 to Brazilians Eduarda Santos Lisboa and Ana Patricia Silva Ramos in the final in Rome.
Wilkerson, 29, and Bukovec, 26, joined forces to form a new team ahead of the start of the season.
Wilkerson, who is considered one of the best blockers in women’s beach volleyball, finished fifth with Heather Bansley at the last Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
A Canadian team reached the final for the second straight time at the World Championship.
Ontarians Melissa Humana-Paredes and Sarah Pavan won gold in 2019.
